A Crafty Christmas Weekend

I'm sure we can all agree that it is absolutely freezing outside...so tonight it's time to hiberate! Before you even think about burrowing into bed with a cosy cuppa might we suggest starting off your weekend plans at Badgers In The Bunker - a unique club night put together by the Artful Badger himself set deep in the underground warren that is the Old Vic Tunnels? We've even heard rumours of Badger Bingo!?

I don’t know about you but the spirit of Christmas is well and truly starting to set in…crisp cold days combined with constructing the Wolf & Badger Xmas window has forced our weekend suggestions to take a pre-empted festive direction. The sight of so many commercial displays and decorations cannot suppress the delight I feel for crafty creations made with love and full of home-made charm. This is why the sound of Christmas Craftacular excites me greatly…

Every year, I have the intention of making my own cards and presents but like so many of us Xmas has that way of creeping up on us all before we even have time to realise. So why not use your Saturday afternoon to roam around 70 beautiful stalls of hand-crafted loveliness, tea, cakes and music at the York Hall Leisure Centre in Bethnal Green. On top of all of that artistic inspiration, their unique ‘Make Lounge’ will be running all-day long fully equipped with a bauble painting workshop and a croquet corner. Craft writer Perri Lewis will also be creating pom-pom accessories as well as hip-pattern making DIY Couture will be demonstrating their individual seamstress skills. Let your creative Christmas commence!

If you’re not too tired after all that artistry why not conclude your Saturday antics by taking a trip East to sample the small bites and cocktails at Nightjar. Launched only last weekend, their innovative menu maps-out the evolution of serious drinking, with dedicated glassware, home-made infusions and painstakingly-researched recipes down to the smallest detail. We’ll drink to that!

Wrapping up your weekend this Sunday sees FS Augusta hosting their trunk show in the boutique from 11-6pm. If the gin-fizz drinks aren’t enough to entice you then the exclusive 15% discount offer will most certainly appeal. Together, Zinzi and Ursula have managed to take an unforgettable and indulgent approach to jewellery design that oozes with crafty quirkiness. Their savvy, young fashion perspective injects a cheeky sense of decadence into their pieces. Striving to break the boundaries between disposable costume jewellery and traditional fine jewellery their collections mix handcraftsmanship with modern technologies to produce the perfect Christmas gift…

Alesha Dixon: E.G Dress

It appears that Alesha Dixon is fast becoming a great fan and supporter of the designers stocked here at Wolf & Badger…having already collaborated with one of our previous lingerie brands – Obey My Demand for the recent MOBO Awards, she has now been spotted looking amazing in this stunning E.G dress.

I don’t know about you, but E.G is definitely up there on my list for party dresses this holiday season! The current collection focuses on strong silhouettes and sharp lines yet all the pieces still allude to an evocative and sensual feminine side with luxurious fabrics, figure hugging contours and classic styling.

Weekend Plans: childish fun

Some of you might have noticed from our tweets (follow us here!), that a great deal of attention and work time in the past weeks has been dedicated to our upcoming e-commerce.

As exciting as it is, as time-consuming is it at the same time. This means that I unfortunately had to neglect the blog a bit, but I think it is worth it. I am proud to give you an exclusive sneak peek:

Another consequence of all the excitement and hectic is that we feel this weekend should be a time away from any stress and enjoyed with the hedonistic innocence of a child.

Let's trigger the inner child and release that secret silly side we all know and love – pure escapism!

Our first suggestion is inspired by another exciting upcoming change at Wolf & Badger: the christmas window! It might not make a lot of sense to you at this point, but soon you will see the connection to the Natural History Museum...

What place could be more playful and fun!? I don’t know about you but the moment I step into this amazing space full of awe-inspiring creatures I get an overwhelming sense of excitement and mischievousness. You should definitely check out the landmark ‘Darwin Centre’ and immerse yourself in the Cocoon experience. The interactive features during the journey through this futuristic building never fails to awake my inner child.

The omnipresent signs of Christmas might have a hand in my child-like openness to hedonism and excitment. I can't wait to go ice-skating (which can conveniently be connected with the visit of the Natural History Museum), baking christmas cookies and enjoying the Christmas time.

In order to fully enjoy the time leading up to Christmas, I start early to get my Christmas presents and avoid the nervewrecking last-minute terror of Christmas shopping.

Not only a perfect christmas present, but perfectly in line with our playful weekend approach

is Brook Sigal's Trunk Show today from 11am to 6pm in our boutique. You don't want to miss Brook's bubbly presentation of her colourful glassware!

To round my weekend up, I am looking forward to a pancake breakfast on Sunday and going to the cinema. I bet you can already guess which film I want to see...

Weekend Plans: 'Le Femme'

In a welcome change from the usual day to day hustle and bustle at the Wolf & Badger office, we were immersed in shooting the editorial images for our new e-commerce site – how exciting!

A much more hectic environment, the office has been overtaken by stylists, photographers and a truly stunning selection of models and we’ve been loving every minute of it.

Having been surrounded by beautiful people and equally beautiful designer pieces it’s no surprise that our weekend plans have taken a more feminine direction. Inspired by a ‘le femme’ theme, this week we want to appeal especially to all our female blog followers.

Friday sees the start of the 10-day London Jazz Festival showcasing an un-missable mix of acts across a variety of venues such as the Barbican and the Royal Festival Hall as well as more intimate jazz clubs including the Ronnie Scott’s and Vortex. What could be a more self-indulgent and relaxing way to wind-down from your working week than totally submerging yourself in this sensual genre of music!?

This weekend’s agenda should put you in the perfect mood to visit Sia Dimitriadi’s trunk show being held in the boutique on Saturday from 12-6pm. Trust me, you really won’t want to miss out on the chance to meet with this lovely designer and enjoy a delicious glass of champagne and tasty cupcakes– what more could a girl want!?

Her ‘Tulle Skirt’ in particular is an absolute show-stopper, boasting a classic a-line shape that transforms any woman into the perfect femme fatale.

And to round up your weekend, venture down to the Barbican Art Gallery for the Future Beauty: 30 Years of Japanese Fashion exhibition on Sunday afternoon. The very first display in Europe to comprehensively survey avant-garde Japanese fashion from the early 1980’s to the present. Curated by the eminent Japanese fashion historian Akiko Fukai – director of the Kyoto Costume Institute, this exhibition explores the unique sensibility of Japanese design, its elegant sense of beauty embodied in clothing as well as the delicate representation of the overall female form.

Trick or Treat Party - we are still on a sugar high

The arrival of fresh new designers to our boutique is always a cause for celebration, and given the time of year we had the perfect excuse to get up to some halloween mischief! For one night only, the store was decorated with hand-carved pumpkins, spooky spiders and cobwebs: the perfect backdrop for all our guests to showcase their amazing costumes.

Winners of the best outfits clearly are Louis Mariette and his models.

It was great to see everyone dressed to scare, sipping cocktails from The Lonsdale and tucking into creepy treats while admiring the latest pieces to feature in the boutique.

Once Rowdy Superst*r had got everybody in a dancing mood with retro classics, the more hardcore wolves and badgers headed into the night to The Lonsdale to carry on partying.

We think it's safe to say that a good time was had by everyone, and if you can't wait for our next party make sure you come and drop in on us in the meantime.

Weekend Plans: take your mind off things

I am sure that all of us are looking forward to the weekend. No matter how much we like our jobs, everyone needs a break. As you might all know, we work closely together with the designers at Wolf & Badger and of course it's not all straight business.

One recurrent theme of the little chats inbetween is how hard it is for creatives to take their mind of work.

This week's suggestions for the weekends hopefully help to change that at least for a while.

To my mind great food is always a good start to unwind, because concentrating on different flavours helps to shift the focus. Most people I know eat way to quickly during the week, treating food rather as fuel that keeps the engine running.

I can't imagine that anyone would do that in Aqua. Aqua is right on Regent Street on top of one of Londons most iconic buildings, the former Dickins & Jones department store. The interior looks as exquisite as the menu sounds.

Only reading "Aubergine mille-feuille with crispy manchego cheese" on their spanish menue (they offer contemporary Japanese and Spanish cuisine), takes my mind off work.

If indulgence isn't yet enough to keep work out of your thoughts, I am sure this amazing view will do the trick:

After being invigorated by delicacies, it's time to get active.

The launch of Futureshorts ONE, a pioneering live event connecting audiences in 12 countries and 50 cities on Saturday night sounds like a perfect option.

For one night the Village Underground will host an action packed night full of the best film, interactive installations and live music.

The live line-up includes Leon Lace DJ, Anna Calvi Live, Future Shorts November Selection, Paul White, Jozif Live and Hannah Holland.

Take it easy on Sunday after a night out! Sleep in, have a long breakfast and a walk in the park and spend hours getting lost in a museum. One of my favourites for the latter is the Museum of Everything.

Don't worry if you missed it last time, the Museum of Everything has returned to Primrose Hill and will run until Christmas, so you have enough time to get lost.

Tuesday Tune: Alesha Dixon – Drummer Boy

The recent MOBO Awards has seen songstress Alesha Dixon join forces with lingerie brand Obey My Demand, to produce an amazing visual collaboration and performance outfit for her recent hit single ‘Drummer Boy’.

We feel that Alesha’s strong and confident sense of style was a perfect match for OMD, embodying their unique vision - to combine luxury trend driven lingerie with sophistication whilst focusing on the sensuality and power of the female form.

Alesha looked amazing, rocking a white leather corset encrusted with silver studs, spikes and chains surrounded by what can only be described as her ‘army’ of co-ordinating male dancers whom also wore shoulder pads created exclusively by OMD.

Trick or Treat Party!

With the most frightening weekend of the year upon us, we can’t ignore the opportunity to join in, having craftily come up with our very own scary spectacle to introduce some new treats to the Wolf & Badger boutique. We will be sure to provide all the glorious eye candy you will ever need in the form of our exciting array of new designers coming into the boutique this coming quarter as of November 1^st.

Ahilya, Catherine Zoraida, Clag Design, Fernando Jorge, Henry Christ, Jacqueline Clark, James Dougall, Jasper Garvida, Karen Bartlett, Leonardo Pieroni, Lilee, Lu Flux, Lipop London, Momocreatura, Piano Necktie, Posthuman Wardrobe, Prive Jewellery, Richard Brendon, Rus In Urbe, Shan Valla, Tactile Wonderland along with all the other existing designers shall be introduced on Wednesday the 3^rd of November at Wolf & Badger’s very own Trick or Treat Party. Of course Fancy Dress is compulsory, with our event being held only 3 days after Halloween there is no excuse not to recycle those creepy costumes, and with top tunes provided by DJ Rowdy Superst*r you'll soon find yourself under his spell, forgetting any inhibitions you once had. As you can see on our invite only those dressed up can gorge on our sickeningly scrumptious sweets and cocktails – you most certainly won’t want to miss out on those!

And don’t forgo your chance to mingle with a bunch of other creatures of the night at the after-party just round the corner at the Lonsdale in conjunction with their First Wednesdays...we look forward to seeing you all there!

Style Feature: A fantastical day in Notting Hill

Clearly impatient to start dressing up in our scary costumes for the Trick or Treat Party, we let out the inner witch and chose an outfit appropriate for the upcoming Halloween Weekend for this week's style feature.

When I was roaming through the streets of Notting Hill and no one wanted to give me treats, my golden Pig (thank you FS Augusta for this lovely company) and I were up for some mischief.

Dancing through West London and wearing the gorgeous E.G Cape Jacket and Federica Moretti's handmade hat, I felt a bit like Mary Poppins and as chimneys weren't available, I opted for swinging on railings...

... and walking on walls.

My surreal adventure was made complete by wearing Gwendolyn Carrie's juicy red Simone Shoes that could be straight out of Hans Christian Andersen's fairytale. "The Red Shoes"

Carrying on the Hans Christian Andersen theme, Gal Stern's "Goldfish" tights made me feel a little bit like "The Little Mermaid".

I shall suggest that as a new name for tights when I see her tomorrow at her Trunk Show.

Gal Stern will be holding her Trunk Show tomorrow from 12-6pm in our boutique, make sure to drop by!

A Halloween Weekend outfit wouldn't be complete without some bones and bodyparts, so we added Patricia Nicolas' "Skeleton Hand Bracelet with Peridot" (above) and Strange Fruit's "Heart Pendant".

Bling Deenie's sparkly red rings were such a perfect match to the shoes, so that we didn't chose just one but four. Obviously they do not only match my shoes.

Olivia Rubin's "Brick Shirt" and the shorts from Sado completed this outfit and were definitely the perfect choice for such a magical day.

Frankly we don't get into the Christmas spirit just yet. When the first stores start to display their Christmas decoration already in August, it rather evokes a shortening reaction. With Christmas starting earlier and earlier these days, it is easy to grow weary off it, rather than to experience it as a special time of the year.

Please let's Christmas not become the next Valentines Day (who does really enjoy that day?).

Let's remember how magical the Christmas time was during our childhoods. Certainly one of the most exciting parts of Christmas is the time leading up to it. I remember the joyful impatience before I could open one of 24 doors of my advent calendar every morning.

We want that feeling back... and we want you to be part of it.

For our first Christmas season we came up with a special window treat. At each of the 12 days leading up to Christmas we will unveil the window -just like an advent calendar- featuring artwork from a selected artist.

Tuesday-Tune: Bonobo feat. Andreya Triana - The Keeper

Shame on me! I again didn't manage to stick to my intention of writing our music monday entry. However, I opt for creativity instead of guilty conscience:

Let me introduce the Tuesday-Tune. We will see with how many music related weekday names I will come up. Obviously I won't write a Music Monday, Tuesday-Tune and Thursday-Track entry each week, but at least it gives us the opportunity to juggle the hustle and bustle of the Wolf & Badger world and an insight in our musical preferences.

Wolf & Badger isn't directly involved with music, but we are very passionate about it. We are happy that we had the opportunity to work with great DJs like Rowdy Superst*r and bands like The Neutronics and A.Human at our various events so far. Just ask our interns how serious we take the daily music selection in the office. They better have a music wish at hand, elsewise Cellina and me will completely take over.

One of our all time favourites (I think of all of us) is Bonobo.

The following track or let's better say the whole album "Black Sands" is perfect for the charming English rain weather. Each single track is ideal for letting yourself fall into the music and dream away. Although I would prefer a more comfortable place than my work place for this, the "zoning out quality" is well appreciated to have a short break in between emails, phone calls and meetings.

Weekend Plans: A bike trip through London

Inspired by our last style feature, in which we feared that Luke would jump on the bike to escape our paparazzi-esque attack, we want to suggest a bike tour for this weekend.

When we saw this poster in Melt Chocolates (dangerously located diagonal opposite of our boutique), we decided that you should start your day at Borough market. Aside from enjoying its regular culinary delights, you will have the chance to visit the Chocolate Unwrapped Show in Vinopolis from 11am to 7pm. My highlight would undoubtfully be the chocolate tasting and sampling, but have a look at the full schedule here!

As far as we are concerned, all our good intentions to taste just one or two pieces would be forgotten after the tenth piece, hence we would suggest trying to soothe the bad conscience by taking a long cycle ride westwards to Notting Hill to check out Zanacco's trunk show at our boutique between 12 an 5.30pm and to enjoy a well-deserved glass of champagne.

Afterwards, carefully take a cycle up to Regents Park and spend the afternoon checking out Frieze Art Fair – definitely not to be missed.

Once you warmed up again and provided that you are still perceptive enough, head down to the Barbican to while away what's left of the day at the Bicycle Film Festival (yes, we take our bike theme very serious!).

After such an active Saturday, you certainly deserve a relaxed Sunday!

We will certainly have a slow Sunday and visit the exhibition of new installations, light works, sculptures and prints by James Turrell at the Gagosian Gallery and maintain the high level of blood sugar of the previous day with the best cheesecake in London!

Thursday Track: I blame Coco - In Spirit Golden

We really like the upcoming single "In Spirit Golden" from I blame Coco.

We think Coco has a great sense of style and the casual look is a welcome change (I was seriously jealous of her flats she was wearing during LFW when I walked in high heels over the cobblestones at Somerset House).

It didn't surprise us that she picked Macha's 45 Knuckle ring for her video.

Another reason why we love the video is the super cute Wolf.

Paparazzi - Badgers can be surprisingly fast

We had to be fast, but we caught him...

Our first male model for the style feature on our blog.

As you have certainly noticed, the pictures and models of our style feature are rather amateur than professional and we struggled to convince Wolf or Badger to lend their beauty to our blog.

Luckily Becc, our lovely assistant store manager, introduced us to Luke and we could win him over to play model for us.

I ususally feel quite uncomfortable myself in front of cameras, so I absolutely understand that he tried to escape by bike at first.

Luckily for us, Luke isn't used to Leather Jeans like the "5 Pocket Leather Jeans" from Jay Kos. Otherwise I would have had to tie the shoe strings from the Zanacco's "Castello Dimgrey" together to keep him from climbing on that bike!

The spotlight on the Zanacco shoes serves them right, as we would like to draw your attention to Zanacco's Trunk Show in our boutique on Saturday, 16th October, from 12 - 5.30pm. Come down to have a drink and talk to Jasmine, the designer.

Before I drift off and Luke uses my attention gap to escape, let's take a closer look at Melanie James' "Cashmere Jumper" and Hentsch Man's "Sunday Shirt".

Judging by the detail in the neck it's a match made in heaven!

The following image might suggest that we actually had to force him to stay in front of the camera, but I can assure you that we had a lot of fun and this is not the last time you will see Luke in our style feature.

It was just the pose the capture a good close up of Tomasz' "Chesterfield Hunter Bangle".

Weekend Plans: Put your Dancing Shoes on

I have to say, I feel a bit bad that we are so behind with the blog. As some may know (and most probably won't), we are catching up with our crop of London Fashion Week. The appointments with all the designers are very exciting and we have had great people in so far, but at the same time it is really tricky to catch up with everything else.

However, now it's time to enjoy the weekend. As last week, I compiled a small selection of suggestions for the weekend.

If I manage to finally leave my spot behind the screen, I will pop down to the Noughtie Nightlife exhibition.

Noughtie Nightlife is a free photography exhibition from September 9th - October 2nd hosted by Rich Mix , curated by Antony Price, himself a photographer and DJ, and includes images by a range of prominent club, trend and fashion photographers.

"Focusing on the fashion, faces and attitudes of cult London club nights, Noughtie Nightlife celebrates the first decade of the new century through the images that tell the story, taken by the photographers who were there. Legendary nights such as Kash Point, Nag Nag Nag, Trash, Anti-Social, All You Can Eat, Durrr, Smash & Grab, Boombox, Circus, secretsundaze and Caligula captured a generation of clubbers who embraced the rapidly expanding world of digital technology and social networking and emerged as a hybrid mix ‘n’ match style tribe, both in terms of music, fashion and cultural beliefs."

I hope that the exhibition will get me in the right dancing mood. On Saturday I will quickly visit our boutique. I know you must think that I am a work-a-holic, but I actually I just want to catch up with Joux Joux and pick my perfect dancing shoes. I am usually a big fan of highheels, but I think I will enjoy the dancefloor this week even more in these ones... What do you think?

Joux Joux will be this weeks designer to hold a Trunk Show in our boutique. From 12 - 6pm Alison will be in the boutique to present her fabulous shoes. A little badger told me that she won't be alone, but in company of prosecco and minicupcakes - what does woman want more?

A sweet treat and shoe shopping at once? The best way to celebrate a Saturday!

After a night out, the best way to get the energy back for the next week, is a slow Sunday. I think of flower therapy on Columbia Road's flowermarket.

If I am already in this corner of the town, I might as well see what one of our jewellery designers Tomasz Donocik is up to. He is currently involved in a pop up shop, that showcases his "Boom and Dynamite" collection, which he collaborated with Tina Lilienthal on.

Last but not least I will lean back and let others do the dancing. This weekend is the first weekend of the dance festival Dance Umbrella.

Bon Iver is one of our all time favourites in the office, especially when it gets a bit hectic around here. I am sure that now that the days get shorter, we will even increase the frequency of hearing Bon Iver.

Given that the name of the band is based on the French phrase "bon hiver", meaning good winter, it is kind of given that it will make the perfect soundtrack for the upcoming cold times.

Our recommendation for winding down after a long day (I can already see myself cuddled up on the couch) and dedicated to everyone who got stressed by the tube strike today obviously will have to be

Weekend plans: A short trip to Scandinavia

Another exciting week in our Wolf & Badger world is over and we are looking forward to a nice weekend!

Traditionally our Friday lunchbreak conversations evolve around the question "Who is doing what this weekend?" and we thought that it would be fun share our ideas with you!

The advent of autumn always reminds me of Finland; it must be the chilly air and the memories of layering clothes to stay warm. When I heard that this weekend is the last weekend of HEL YES!, it immediately got a spot in my priority list.

HEL YES! is a temporary restaurant and exhibition imagined and realised by a creative team of Finnish designers and food visionaries and part of the London Design Festival. HEL YES! is open until 3rd October. More information can be found here.

Another interesting perspective on Finland is offered by one of the pioneers of streetstyle blogs, Hel Looks.

If you are interested in streetstyles, you should follow Cellina's suggestion for the weekend and check out the Streetstyle exhibition at The Book Club.

The Streetstyle exhibition features images from the book as well as showcases a series of talks and discussions with Ted and guests about the past, present and future of Street Style and subcultural fashion.

The current streetstyle in London is certainly dominated by layers of warm clothes and knitwear. I have to admit that I am a bit jealous when I look at the collection of Sue Hill.

I am talking about beautiful hand knits made from the softest yarn (80% extra fine merino, 20% cashmere). Too bad for me that the clothes are only available for up to 8 years old. If I would have a kid, I would make sure to visit our boutique tomorrow (2nd Oct), as Sue Hill will be holding a trunk show from 12 - 6pm.

Sue Hill is well known for unique and classic hand knitted baby clothes as well as hand knitted classic coats, dresses and sweaters for boys and girls up to 8yrs. She will show more items from her collection and be available for a chat during her trunk show.

Maybe I should ask her if I can get one of this beautiful hooded jackets in my size?!

If I manage to get wrapped up warm enough (and it stops raining) another option for the weekend is a trip to Kensington Gardens, which currently hosts the exhibition of Anish Kapoor's outdoor scultpures "Turning The World Upside Down".

However, since the exhibition will be open until march, my alternative to walking through the rain is to continue my short trip to Scandinavia and to have a relaxed afternoon in. A nice cup of tea, a good book and the Swedish band "Little Dragon" on repeat always makes a perfect Sunday afternoon treat...

We sticked to our promise of our first visit at London Fashion Week back in February and returned filled with anticipation. We were obviously on the hunt for new gems for our boutique and attended as much as possible. From Fashion Shows like Jena.Theo ...

and Mark Fast ...

to the design exhibitions at Vauxhall Fashion Scout and NewGen!

Of course we took our job very serious, collected cards and lookbooks (our backs still hurt from carrying bags and bags and bags full of material) and took notes ...

... but equally we made sure to enjoy the hustle and bustle of Fashion Week, especially the always entertaining people watching game!

Although I can't spill the beans which designers impressed us most (but keep an eye on what's going on in our boutique), I can certainly share one of our highlights! How great are those hats?! It's not a Wolf or a Badger, but I think Henry and Cellina can pull the bull and lioness off with ease.

Graduate Design Awards - The winners

On Wednesday night we had the amazing opportunity to celebrate our inaugural Graduate Design Awards at The Hospital Club.

What a night....
Expect the unexpected seems to be the most appropriate way to describe it!

The night was filled with performance art curated by Nathalie Levi including contributions from Ilka Leukefeld, Jenny Edbrooke, Jonny Reed, Levantes Dance Theatre, Marnie Hollande, Neesha Champaneria, Stephanie Douet and Tiina Tuomisto.

The evening programme was topped off with amazing live music by The Neutronics and the fantastic music/ visual combination by the VJs Airflux from Milan and DJ Rowdy Superst*r.

However, the true stars of the evening were the first winners of our Graduate Design Awards!

Hunting in the City

With the start of London Fashion Week you will find them out there... the Fashionistas. Running from show to show on the hunt for the newest trends and hottest designers, but equally for the game of see and to be seen. Considering the busy schedule of cat walk shows and demonstrations, trainers would be more appropriate, but we know our priorities... We have put together our "hunting outfit" to leave Notting Hill and join the hustle and bustle of London Fashion Week.

We settled for the "Black Pagastick Skirt" from Ricardo Dourado in combination with one of the must-have items of the season, a Cape. Under this stunning "Cotton Cape with Pleated Details" by Natalie C is the "Magdalena Bodysuit" by Obey My Demand. We love how the leather sleeves give the whole outfit the certain extra. The suit without the cape will be perfect for the fashion parties at night, as the bodysuit has some more features than just the leather sleeves in stock.
If you want to have a closer look at the collection from Obey My Demand you should visit us at Saturday 25th September, when Obey My Demand will be holding a Trunk Show in our boutique!

We prefer Gil Carvalho's incredible high heels "Buzz" to trainers and can't think of any better name for those shoes. As soon as we stepped out of the boutique, we had women commenting on them!

In accordance with the our "Hunting" theme we chose the subtle "Rockwell Stud Earrings" by Macha as they reminded us of little rocks.

As soon as we had picked the outfit we knew that we have to use Tomasz's "Gun Pendant" necklace.

The finishing touch is the “Bear in Circus” ring by Eleftheria Lamprou-Karela, which adds some playfulness. It is always good to stop for a second and smile during this hectic week.

Ceramic & Wood Collection 2010

Can crafted objects be a product of both the hand and digital technology?

This collection of work attempts to answer this question by creating a complex marriage between two very different materials, using radically different processes.

A physical relationship exists in the work that can only be realized by the coming together of handicraft and digital technology.

Emily Auger

Emily Auger's final degree collection consists of a mixture of elaborate Perspex pieces, which have been covered in prints using a Gloss Laminate film.

With a strong passion for dance she wanted to find a way of portraying movement in design but in an unobvious way.

The prints on the Perspex pieces are created using the technique of dancing with materials under a scanner with the idea that movement can turn an aesthetically non eye-catching design into a sophisticated beautiful one.

At first glance the collection looks like an ordinary interiors set up but when looking at each piece individually the viewer is drawn into a mini world of dance.

Julian Bond

Pixel Vases

Pixel vases are produced using a mould that is made up of over 1300 individual plaster sticks, which are moved individually to form unique moulds, unlike a normal slip casting mould which is fixed.

Once the user is happy with the design, clay slip is poured into the mould to create the final object. The clay is then fired and glazed.

The objects can take many forms but are all related due to the technique that is used to produce them.

Sue Ae Kim

Sue Ae Kim is interested in creating narrative, satirical contemporary stories in ceramics
referring to the 18th and 19th century’s figurines in Europe. Ceramic figurines were
used for striking a conversation among people during meal time.

The subject of ‘courtship’ intrigues her by the resemblance of the 21st century’s
behaviour and intimate relationship, and also compares with the situation of how
couples meet and break up easily these days.

She is also interested in what is hidden in the behind the scene of stories in ceramic
art. The idea of English traditional flat-back figurines and back part of plates are
somewhere she can play around, and give a little of hidden surprise.

Victoria Delany

Victoria Delany aims to challenge the boundaries of design through the creation of ultra-modern, functional domestic objects. Her trademark is her innate ability to re-create traditional items and transform them into compelling, lifelong, contemporary pieces. She achieves this through designing with a theme of simplicity, introducing splashes of bold colour and evoking an instinctive, emotional engagement between user and object.

Victoria Delany works confidently with a variety of materials including metals, woods and fabrics. She employs fine craftsmanship techniques paired with the latest technologies, often combining materials to achieve sophisticated, modern effects.

Richard Brendon

Richard Brendon describes himself as a Kingston University product a Notting Hill local. All the objects he uses for these projects have been sourced from Portobello Road.

Reflect Collection

These highly reflective cups and saucers can be used as replacement pieces for tea sets where a piece is broken or missing. When a reflective cup is paired with an existing ceramic saucer the pattern is reflected and unites them as a pair.

Detail originals
For this project Richard has developed a technique to reglaze existing ceramic objects, keeping only a small detail from the original pattern. This revives and adds longevity to perviously unwanted and dated ceramics.

Jodie Hurst

Jodie Hurst allows herself to be affected by the scenery she sees around her, and the feelings it provokes.

Regarding growth as her inexhaustible source of inspiration, her work reflects her appreciation for nature, but with living in the big city and urban influence has sneaked it's way in.

Interaction between humankind and the natural world interests Jodie Hurst. Organic forms spring to life in her jewellery, contrasted by "plastic" man-made tones.

The sensual flowing designs attract the daring, craving attention from its audiences like the appeal between a bee and the vibrant flower growing between the cracks of concrete pavement.

Clea Koluvek

Above all, the purpose of Clea Koluvek's jewellery is to evoke a feeling of joy and wonder.

In a time characterized by cynicism, minimalism, and conceptual art, her work is a tribute to the spiritual and aesthetic delight she experiences in the natural environment. She aims to summon the enchanted world of moon-lit forests and flower-sprinkled meadows and invite the viewer to enter into that magical space.

Inspired by Japanese art and geisha hair jewellery, the delicate silver rings, hair pins, and earrings combine subtle colour harmonies with a gracefully balanced composition.

Eva Vautier

Reminiscene

Vautier's hybrid practice investigates the poetic possibilities of lacquer for contemporary jewellery, using a dying craft now many thousands of years old. She researches its "memory" and the multiple layers of culture and history embedded within it, to generate new identities in the realm of jewellery.

The Reminiscence Collection integrates concepts of fossils, encapsulations and erosion to evoke the memory of lacquer on both a physical and abstract level offering wearable artefacts that are unfamiliar yet desirable.

Part of this collection and future ones are developed with the great contribution and support of Lacquer Craftsmen from the Aomori Prefecture, Japan.

Jacqueline Clarke

Caviar Collection

Jacqueline Clarke creates jewellery that is tactile, wearable, covetable.

The collection started with a pebble form, silver precious metal clay and an epoxy resin to cast and sculpt these shapes. Jacqueline started making organic shapes, filing and sanding to achieve the smooth surface and sensuous curves she requires. She wanted to add another texture, and perhaps another material - something that could play with light. Jacqueline discovered minute glass balls, and set them into the resin. The effect is surprising - it looks almost edible - hence she named it her "Caviar Collection".

Mayuko Yamamura

We often reminisce about the past when we see, hear, smell or touch something familiar…

This collection has taken its inspiration and its concept from classic handicraft techniques, which I consider a symbol of nostalgia. I believe that the fact that an item is hand made, perhaps using inherited skills and techniques, increases the significance of the item and makes it precious.
My aim is to combine vintage textiles with textile techniques – knitting and crocheting precious metal chain - to create precious jewellery, which has interesting visual and tactile qualities.

Vladislav Chistiakov

The author's interest is a movement that arose in humans and object interaction. During exploration, the author noticed that people often feel nervous or otherwise feeling, perform various manipulations with the objects which by default are not intended for that purpose.

The most typical example of male-is amended to finger his wedding ring, key chain pendant is monotone and reel spooled from a finger, etc.

These activities generated inspired to create jewellery collections, where they were to the denunciation, interpreted and become a key substantive meaning of bearing. Many of the natural processes, can be interpreted as a movement, it is important to find the causes and consequences. The Kinetic rings are made from silver, semiprecious stone and a magnet.

Nicola Williams

Eyewear as an accessory inspires Nicola Williams. She is intrigued by its potential to adorn the eyes and transform the silhouette of the face.

The collection celebrates the versatility of leather as a material, whilst exploring the functionality of sunglasses – inviting the wearer to wear a pair on their head or over the eyes.

Jade Little

The collection aims to push the constraints of the intimate apparel industry and create more fashion driven control wear pieces that would be attractive to not only those who wanted them to be functional but also the fashion conscience.

Whilst developing the collection, Jade Little decided that she also wanted the line to have the versatility to carry over in to lingerie and even swimwear.

The result is an innovative new collection, which along with accompanying wooden show pieces, which are bespoke, pushes the boundaries.

Natalie Rae Richardson

‘Well Dressed Animals’ - 2010

Inspired by the anthropomorphic artwork of artist Ryan Berkley, each of the 8 looks invokes the spirit of well-shod wildlife from Berkley's animal portraiture.

Natalie Rae’s collection depicts the wild side of human nature, showing the different elements of our daily lives – the restrained, the carefree, and the wild. Each piece has a unique balance of colours and textures invoking the individuality and humour in each animal's look. The collection also balances a fashion-forward sensibility with sustainability, using organic, ethically sourced fabrics, materials and labour.

Yelena Loguiiko

The collection is inspired by Picasso’s “Portrait of a Woman after Cranach the Younger” and Cubist geometry, which has translated, into my garments as an eclectic twist of cubism-inspired forms that mingle with elements of Eastern European folklore, primary traditional Latvian dresses.

The collection is formed of both evening- and casual wear, with coats and jackets to mach, all designed and produced with great attention to tailoring details. The designs are defined by extended rounded shoulder lines, a boxy loose silhouette and rich draping becoming a funky meets classical.

Elegant and subtle dark tones; flannel grey, heavy burgundy, spruce yellow, antler, wan blue, silver grey and moon form the collection's chic colour palette, while wool and Mongolian wool and jersey ensure that no chilly breeze spoil a winter walk.

Lislie Yeung

The collection:
Inspired by an albino dolphin sighting reported on CNN, Lislie Yeung was intrigued to probe deeper into the genetic condition and how albinos' captivating visuals evokes such strong emotions.

The challenge was to create a soft, ethereal, airy and delicate collection that could evoke similar moods and aesthetics as the albinos themselves.

The rarity of albinos called for the use of exotic materials that played with different textures and shades of white, blush and gradient. Custom prints, materials and buckles were designed specifically to make the collection fresh and stand out in the market. Subtle, technical details were key in the collection.

Domingo Rodriguez

AW10/11 runs on the basis of the spine, the scaffolding lines of the human figure that everything else is built upon. Pieces echo the body creating skeletal forms created through engineered pattern cutting.

The design is streamlined to give a soft, sleek, refined finish for a collection that draws on situational elegance, consisting of pieces that have no base in any fixed history, yet are resonant of many.

A softly tailored; layered silhouette is a reflection of the fibre content and colour. The culmination of these factors create a sense of nonchalant luxury with soft lustrous fabrics and textures, cashmere, layered sleek jersey and sheers, softly blistered leather and suede.

Colours run from nude, flesh and bone through to neutral hues of dust, ash and mink.

Wolf & Badger Selfridges Summer Residency Launch

The Wolf & Badger Summer Residency has now launched in Selfridges, Oxford Street! Showcasing collections from some of our new season designers, we are presenting some of the finest art, jewellery and design pieces, alongside an exciting and interactive arts programme curated by Nathalie Levi in conjunction with Salon Contemporary.

Running exclusively from August 12th until August 31st, we held our launch party which was a roaring success. Mouthy, interactive art performances from Jessica Tsang were accompanied by the musical (and very exuberant!) genius of A-Human. Guests meandered through a plethora of our innovative new designers and their collections, and marvelled at unique art works. Monobrowed ladies offered gin & jelly beans and kept the party spirit alive! Selfridges gift bags for each guest and an after party at Whistler Lodge styled Moose Bar, topped off what really was a fantastic evening (photographs are up now on our Facebook page)

Our residency will continue until August 31st and we have a fantastic programme of musicians and artists appearing, we still have so much to come.....

Tuesday 24th & Wednesday 25th August - Bill Aitchinson will be performing, which plays upon the borders of truth and fiction within the field of art, politics, propaganda and entertainment.

Thursday 26th August - Vanessa Harden, Kevin Hill, Ben Fagan will be exhibiting their Beeswax Sculpture and video installation. From 11am to 12pm Joao Noro will be giving a ‘Live Painting’ Performance, and from 12pm onwards Keira Rathbone will be enchanting us with her Typewriter Art Performance.

Friday 27th August - 12pm onwards: Keira Rathbone, Typewriter Art Performance 1pm: Steve McGarrity, Human Plinth Peformance. 8pm: Bull in a Field, a live band will be taking us into the weekend.

Saturday 28th - from 11am – 4pm Natalie Marie Dray will be transforming our Selfridges area into a glorified transmission of desire and want, like a television commercial, but from an Alien broadcast commercial.

4pm: Steve McGarrity, Human Plinth Performance
7pm: Caroline Pooley will be soothing away the shopping madness with her Operatic tones.

Sunday 29th - Sophie Cullinan, Worn, Interactive Sculpture, alongside from 11am onwards, Anna Ricciardi's Mermaid Performance. A truly theatrical event in a space which suits the concerns and sensibilities of the space. In this performance, Anna can evoke both the horrors and the glories of the English sea-side town in the reinterpretation of this myth, as a living, breathing, flirtatious, chocolate-eating mermaid.

Travel in Style

Inspired by one of our team members travelling to New York and the general wish to escape the grey clouds over London and to go on a holiday somewhere where the sun shines, we ended up in a discussion about travelling styles. Whilst we all acknowledge that we want to travel in comfortable clothes, we just don't see the point in wearing a track suit outside of a fitness centre. Hence we asked Zoe, if she could put together a comfortable yet stylish outfit, for our upcoming (partially imaginary) trips.

Zoe's combination proves that uncomplicated style does not need to mean unglamorous. The "Biker Jeans" from Alina stand out with details like the padded knees and the asymmetrical seamline over the thigh. Paired with the cream coloured jacket "Malvina" by Tosha and the ivory coloured "Short top" by Sado the outfit gets a slightly elegant touch.

The Pony Skin heeled boots "Beswike" by JouxJoux are not only extremely comfortable, but add a striking element to the outfit. No wonder they did not only catch our eyes...

Not less eye- catching is Moncrief's "Weekend Bag". As the name already suggests it has the perfect size for a trip over the weekend. Big enough to accomodate a set of outfits, yet small enough to count as cabin baggage. (We want to travel not only in style, but smart as well and skip the waiting times in the baggage claim area).

As the accessories and the striking "Global Ring" made from silver and lemon quartz by Annamaria S. are rather outstanding, Zoe completed the outfit with the subtle "Gold Knot"necklace by Macha Jewellery and Eleftheria Karela's playful "pearl feather earings".

We are delighted to announce a Wolf & Badger Summer Residency in the Concept Area of the Selfridges Wonder Room, August 12th-31st.

We will be featuring pieces from the collections of some of our new designers in store for Autumn 2010.

Contemporary art will be displayed and curated by Nathalie Levi and Samir Ceric of Salon Contemporary, in association with Wolf & Badger, and performance artists will be enhancing what will be a fantastic experience for us.

We can finally spare a minute to share some impressions from our highly anticipated Summer Party with you!

As you might have already heard, we pooled together with Selfridges for the exciting collaboration "Summer Residency" and will have a concept store in Selfridges' Wonder Room August 12-31. We have some exciting suprises planned, so make sure not to miss it!

But before we completely immerse ourselves in final preparations, we want to thank everyone who came and made our Summer Party into such a fantastic evening!

Although the weather was a bit temperamental, you proved stamina and showed up in big numbers.

We really enjoyed drinking Pimms...

...listening to a DJ set by Oliver Fatemi...

...and not to forget trying the delicious gelato from DriDri!

At the later hour the party continued at The Lonsdale with their great cocktails.

Let's admit it, one of the best parts of parties is certainly the question "Who is wearing what?".

However this means that for days our lunch-break conversations have been centred on the question "What should I wear?" at our Summer Party tomorrow. It's shaping up to be a great night, so we want to enjoy it to the fullest including the fun of anticipation!

How often did we all find ourselves on the night of the party standing despairingly in front of a wardrobe full of nothing?! Not this time.... We are prepared!

We got together with Zoe in the boutique and looked for some inspiration for the perfect party outfit.

Zoe's odds-on favourite is the must-have item of the summer, a jumpsuit.

It's effortlessly chic and comfortable at the same time - perfect for Summer Parties that tend to take place outside.

The stunning printed jumpsuit from Natalie C is made from pure silk and makes you feel nothing but glamourous. To enhance this feeling, Zoe paired it with those amazing high heels from Rei Ixbalambke:

As the asymmetrical neckline of the jumpsuit makes necklaces surplus, Zoe chose statement pieces to accessorize.

Michal Lerman's "Pavoreal" cuff is most certainly an eyecatcher and we just love to combine it with her "Afrodita II" earrings.

The most dazzling piece is without doubt Gisele Ganne's "Divorce" ring. No wonder that the collection was one of the Stylelist's favourite suggestions for Sandra Bullock's 46th birthday.

We can't wait for tomorrow and are looking forward to you all arriving in numbers.

New designers and new seasonal stock - it's time for a party!

I can't believe how time flies.... another three months gone!

However there's no need to shed tears, as we here at Wolf & Badger are really looking forward to everything that is coming up. I can tell you, the near future will be very exciting. I can't spill the beans just yet, but very soon....

Anyway, before we immerse fully in the chain of events coming up we want to stop and cherish the moment. I don't know where I read this, but I quite liked it: "The present is called present, because it's a gift."

Hence we would like to invite you to celebrate the arrival of the new summer stock with us and welcome the exciting new designers, that will join Wolf & Badger in August!

We will have a summer party next Wednesday, August 4th, from 6pm - 9pm at the Wolf & Badger boutique.

What better way to celebrate the summer than with Pimms (served by Miss Qs) and ice cream?! We were so thrilled by Dri Dri's sensational Gelato that we just had to have it at our party!

From 9pm onwards the party will continue at The Lonsdale where a complimentary cocktail will be served to all Wolf & Badger guests.

We seemed to have caused some confusion with the title of the last blog, but let me assure you, we had a plan. We did not just randomly changed "making the heartbeat fast" into "short". Our obsession with ice cream is so strong that it even intruded our playlist.

If you are an avid Twitter follower (if not, become one now!), you have certainly read that we have a "tiny" obsession at the moment. Literally five minutes from the boutique (189 Portobello Road) is this local gem:

Dri Dri offers 14 different flavours of delicious Italian gelato and 6 sorbets, which are every day freshly produced. If you have the good luck to meet the owner in person, he will tell you proudly that he only uses the best ingredients like organic milk, English season fruits and regional Italian jewels like the pistachios from Sicily and so much more (except artificial stuff like colouring, flavouring and thickeners). Don't get him started on the traditional process "mantecazione", which he uses to bring us gelato like in bella italia.

You'll obviously be spoilt for choice, but the nice people working at Dri Dri's are quick to help! Because they are as passionate about ice cream as we are about emerging talent and exciting designers, they will not only let you taste different flavours but they will recommend their favourite one as well.

We are inspired (and were in need of a reason to make a trip down to Portobello Road) and tell you our top 3 flavours.

1. Lampone (raspberry sorbet)

2. Cioccolato extra noir (extra noir chocolate sorbet - beware! might be too chocolaty for some)

We here at Wolf and Badger love the summer…

The sunshine brightens the spirits and casts away the last remains of spring tiredness. It seems like everyone is determined to make the most of the summer and this attitude is reflected in our calendars –it is brimming with events!

One of our favourite events of the season are the beautiful summer weddings. Whilst the bride benefits from the timing (so many more options when it comes to the wedding dress; think of strapless dresses, backless and more), the choice for the guests clearly becomes more difficult.

As dark colours absorb the light, the little black dress is rather inconvenient. Very bright colours can quickly be too flashy and crème and white are obviously reserved for the bride!

Zoe Knight, the Creative Director of Wolf & Badger, styled an outfit for a summer wedding. She decided in favour of Sia Dimitriadi’s lovely peach coloured silk and chiffon dress.

It’s perfect for the warm temperatures as it is wonderfully light and breezy. The cute ruffle trimming at the neckline and the removable belt match such a romantic occasion.

Zoe paired the dress with grey lace shoes from Mary Ching Shanghai, a black Pagoda clutch from Aseef Vazaa, a playful gummy bracelet with an Aqua Marine stone from Anna Maria S. and gold pleated skull hand earrings from Patricia Nicholas.

The skull hand earrings were chosen to subtly toughen up the sweet, feminine outfit.

However this might be a bit too extreme for a classic wedding party, hence Zoe picked an alternative to create a cute and gentle outfit. How adorable are the bow chain earrings “Caroline” from Mallarino?

Dear Graduates,

Sometimes we all wish that we could have a 48 hours day, don't we?
Final projects for university, graduate fashion week, and then our Graduate Design Award deadline all happening at once ...or so you thought!

We are so excited about the attention it is receiving that we have decided to extend the deadline date to Monday, 2nd August 2010.

Hopefully this will allow all you talented, but super busy students extra time to prepare your application forms. Furthermore we will now be announcing and presenting the awards in late September to coincide with the London Fashion Week and London Design Festival.

With celebrations of the London Jewellery Week all over town we wanted to seize the opportunity, got some of our wonderful jewellery designers together and held an exclusive in-store and press event yesterday.

Allumer, Ambre France, Anna Maria S, Florence B, Michael Berger, Michal Lerman, Miquella, Rina Tairo and xxmiles joined us in our boutique

Walpole Brands of Tomorrow 2010!

Last night we had the pleasure to attend the celebration of Walpole's "Brands of Tomorrow" for 2010. We were announced "Brands of Tomorrow" alongside Basso & Brooke, Charlotte Olympia Shoes, Mawi Jewellery, Rococo Chocolates, Josephine Home and Abahna. It is a great honour to us, especially because the scheme includes a bespoke mentoring and coaching program designed to support up-and-coming British luxury brands in becoming world-class leaders in their respective field.

Considering that one of the key-elements of our concept is the mentoring of the many talented designers that work together with us, we regard it as an amazing opportunity and generous offer to be mentored for the next year not only by Walpole chairman John Ayton, but as well by author and doyenne of luxury journalism Lucia van der Post.

The event took place at Browns Hotel in London.

A nice setting for such a luxurious occasion...

Each candidate had an opportunity to present his products to the members of Walpole, the mentors, journalists and of course the other new members.

We’re excited to join new local initiative "First Wednesdays" which brings West London’s creative businesses together every first Wednesday of the month with late night openings, one-off events and exclusive collaborations.

Some of the highlights of the upcoming "First Wednesdays" events will be the opening of VitaliV, "Digital Life"at Salon Contemporary, Whitewall Galleries' 4th birthday (congratulations!) and the closing party of Alex Young’s show at the London Miles Gallery.

Fashion Week. A time when the many faces, figures and facets of the industry all flock together to look towards the season ahead.

With our selection team having already been through the exhibition space with a fine tooth-comb, a somewhat more relaxing view of fashion week was in order. Toting the UK Buyer passes, we meandered around the Embankment galleries, and to NewGen sponsored by TopShop exhibitions. Said hello to some of the designers currently in the Wolf & Badger boutique that were showing at Fashion Week this season - Maria Francesca Pepe, Sia Dimitriadi, Minna, Merle O'Grady, Minimarket to name a few. Now, in true Wolf & Badger style, a trip to Fashion Week would not be complete without a visit to the tents.... or the hot crepe stand. The weather was all too typical, and the sight of matching heels and umbrellas was better observed with a steaming white chocolate and strawberry crepe in hand.

Walking away from the tents and back to the office, the last words London Fashion Week had to say were all too relevant to Wolf & Badger. "See you Next Season".
